Lightweight and Durable - Carbon Fiber Slide

The outer slide of the YSL-254CF is made of carbon fiber, a lightweight and highly rigid material that also offers excellent corrosion resistance.

A light slide section makes it easier to maintain playing posture compared to a metal slide, while also reducing strain on the right arm. The material is also durable, reducing the risk of damage even if the instrument is knocked or bumped. Its excellent corrosion resistance means that students can use it with confidence, even when they are unfamiliar with instrument care. It is the ideal slide for anyone starting to play trombone for the first time.

Sound with confidence

We are sometimes asked, "Doesn't carbon fiber give the instrument a thin tone, like plastic?" However, the slide used on YSL-254CF is made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), which is different from ordinary plastic.

This material ensures the rigidity and dimensional accuracy required for a slide, achieving smooth airflow and quick response. It produces a natural trombone-like tone, allowing players to perform with confidence.

Carbon Fiber Slide Configuration

The difference from the metal slide trombone is the outer slide.

The straight sections of the outer slide are made from carbon fiber, while the crook is made from brass.

The straight sections of the outer slide are made of carbon fiber, while the curved section is made of brass. The outer slide brace is made of brass, and the joints connecting the brace to the slide are made of ABS resin. The inner slide is made of nickel silver.

Dedicated to Quality

Yamaha has verified the strength and durability of the carbon fiber slides through two internal tests. The first is an impact test, in which a pendulum is dropped from the same height onto both a brass pipe and a carbon fiber pipe. Under conditions where the brass pipe develops a dent on its outer surface so that the slide will not move, the carbon fiber pipe shows only surface marks, with no change in its inner diameter or any effect on slide action.

The second is a strength test, in which a load is applied to each pipe to measure how well it can withstand bending forces. This confirms that the carbon fiber pipe is about 15% stronger than the brass pipe.
